When talking about cars, it's easy to see how there can be many different types of people out there who are into them. Some people love driving fast sports cars while others prefer more practical family sedans. It may seem like an odd thing to talk about when considering psychology, but automotive sex has become a big part of modern society. There are many reasons why this could be true; perhaps it's because cars allow for freedom from daily life or give drivers feelings of control that they don't usually have in their normal lives. Whatever the reason might be, car culture definitely isn't going away anytime soon! With all these factors involved, it makes sense that some drivers would start thinking about sex in relation to their vehicles - especially since they spend so much time sitting behind the wheel. The question then becomes what types of fantasies do people have regarding their cars? Does perceiving other driver’s envy or admiration enhance erotic attention, sexual confidence, and subconscious arousal?
The answer is yes! In fact, research suggests that individuals who experience high levels of car envy are likely to engage in sexual behaviors related to their vehicle ownership status. This includes viewing one's own car as attractive compared with those owned by others (i.e., objectifying), feeling superior because of one's vehicle choice over another's choices, and being more willing to invest resources into maintaining and enhancing one's car compared with someone else's vehicle. These findings suggest that car culture plays an important role in shaping our perceptions of ourselves and others.
If you drive a nice new sports car and notice that everyone else around you drives older model sedans, you may feel like your car stands out from the crowd and thus receive positive attention from onlookers.
If your neighbor has a newer model than yours, this can lead to feelings of inferiority which could potentially affect how you perform at work or even lead to depression.
