Psychology of cars, automotive sexuality, and car eroticism
There are many ways that people express their emotions through their vehicles, including sexuality. People have been known to name their cars after sexy things like "Lusty", "Cuddles", "Sexy Sadie", or "Stallion". They may also personalize them with bumper stickers reading "I heart boobs" or "My other vehicle is an ex-girlfriend". Some people even find themselves having sex fantasies involving their cars. These fetishes can range from simple desires for speed to more elaborate scenarios such as being chased by police while driving a sports car.
The way cars make us feel has been studied since the early days of psychology. In fact, Freud himself believed that there was a connection between car speed and sexual arousal. He saw this relationship as being related to how fast you drive, which he called libido energy. According to him, if your car goes fast enough, it can cause physical sensations similar to those experienced during sexual activity. This includes increased heart rate, perspiration, and breathing changes.
There seems to be a correlation between feelings of control and power associated with driving fast cars and those who enjoy feeling empowered in bed.
Some researchers dispute these claims.
In one study, participants were asked about their attraction towards cars before and after viewing a series of images depicting either high-speed or slow-moving vehicles. The results showed that the participants' arousal levels did not differ depending on whether they were looking at fast or slow cars.
Another study found that women who watched videos of men fixing their cars reported greater arousal than those who watched videos of men playing sports. So perhaps the type of stimulation matters more than simply going fast.
It's also worth considering that our culture often associates certain types of cars with masculinity or femininity. Certainly, some models are advertised using sex appeal, such as the "Daisy Duke" style jean shorts worn by Jennifer Lopez in her 2003 movie Hustlers. Meanwhile, other cars have been marketed as "sexy" due to their curves or sleek design. But do we really need to attach sexuality to every aspect of life?
Some people may find themselves feeling attracted to their cars for reasons unrelated to speed or appearance. They might feel like their vehicle is an extension of themselves or even part of their body. One woman wrote online: "My car and I have had many good times together. We have shared so much passion, adventure, love, and intimacy." Others describe their car as being like a lover, saying things like "I've fallen deeply in love with my car" or "I'm always thinking about my car when I'm away from it". Still others see their car as representing freedom and power.
It seems that there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to the relationship between cars and sex. It depends on your own preferences and experiences. If you enjoy driving fast and feel empowered behind the wheel, then go for it! Just don't expect everyone else to understand why your automobile turns you on. And if you're not into cars at all, don't worry - there are plenty of other ways to express yourself sexually.
